Can you imagine anything better than having a bar in your own home? Think of all the money you’ll save not paying the mark up price that bars charge. You will end up saving quite a bit of money in a short amount of time.
Not only will you save money not paying mark up prices, you can make some money. When your guests pay you for their drinks you’ll make some money.
Therefore you will be able to replenish and add to your collection of spirits cheaply. Not only that but your guest will love to pay you a lessor price than what the local bar charges.

Collecting Your Spirits
You don’t have to spend a fortune getting your bar set up. Have your guest bring a bottle to donate to the initial stocking of the bar.
Start with just a few of your favorite bottles of the liquor that you and your guests drink. Add to the stock as you are able to. You don’t need to purchase top shelf spirits especially if you will be serving mixed drinks.
There are people who will tell you that you need to have a couple of bottles of each of the six different types of spirits.
- Brandy
- Gin
- Rum
- Vodka
- Whiskey
- Tequila
If you or non of your friends drink a certain type of liquor then don’t buy it. There is no sense of spending good money to have something sitting on the shelf that you will never use.
Even if you do decide to go top shelf it’ll still be a lot cheaper than buying it at the local pub.
There are other advantages. Since it is your place and it’s not open to the public, only people who you invite will be there. No more fighting in the parking lot because everybody gets along.
Another thing, because you are in charge only the music that you want to hear will be played.
The time that the bar opens and closes is also up to you. Your set is the best party spot in town.

Collecting Essential Bar Tools
The professional bartender will say bar tools are essential, but I say that they are just fun to have. Although I do own a set of the tools below. I must admit that I do have fun mixing drinks for my guest using them.
1) A liquor dispenser, also called a bar butler, always pours the perfect measured shot. Therefore it saves a lot of money and makes your drinks consistent. A jigger does the same thing and both are nice to have.
2) A cocktail shaker is a must have for mixing drinks by shaking them. If you put ice in while shaking it gets the drinks chilled pretty quick.
3) A bar spoon is a long handled spoon that is needed for mixing and layering mixed drinks.
4) A cocktail strainer is used to allow only liquids to be poured from the shaker to the drinking glass.
5) A muddler is a tool used to mash and release the flavor of fruits, herbs and spices in a glass.
6) The ice bucket and tongs or (scoop): A good ice bucket holds plenty of ice and keeps it from melting. The tongs are used to transfer the ice to the drinking glass.
7) A fancy bar tray is nice to set these items on and good as a serving tray.
